About the Artist

Victoria Hope Olson is an artist and a poet in Bozeman, Montana. Raised in the Greater Yellowstone area, she spent her childhood climbing around on rocks, playing in the snow, and admiring wildflowers and lovely rays of sunlight. Now, working toward a Bachelor Degree in Physics and Studio Art at MSU, Victoria spends most of her time doing the same as before: following unbounded enthusiasm for the rocks, snow, wildflowers and sunlight. Creature wonder, aided now by technical ice tools, a couple of cams, and powder skis. For Victoria, most of the artistic process lies here, in learning the spirit of the mountains and how to dance with grace and wonder alongside them.

About The Art

In simple but bold ink drawings, the subject of much of Victoria’s work is the Montana landscapes she has come to adore and those who love to get out and enjoy them.  She concentrates on the way the body and mind interact with the natural world: the tactile and physical sensations of a movement, paired with the freedom of mind found in the shadows of stone and sky. She prefers to do most of her art with a cardboard sketchbook and a set of black pens, which she swears is the best medium for the by-headlamp-squashed-in-the-tent-it-is-hailing-and-has-been-for-days kind of inspired creative moments.
